Van Buren State Park

The Wood County OHC  has adopted Van Buren State Park in Van Buren, Ohio as our club project. For years the trail system at Van Buren had all but been forgotten. All that was really useable was a walk way around the lake that the hikers and bikers could use. Living here in Northwest Ohio you may have noticed that horse trails and camping are not to be found and we are working on changing that. Van Buren now has 11 miles of trails and a 38 site overnight camp ground that is ready for your camping get-a-way.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery that Van Buren has to offer.  If you haven't visited lately, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the improvements that have been made.  The picture to the left is of a bridge built in 2003.

The trails wind through the high side of new growth woods, and then dip down along the Rocky Ford River. Over the bridge you will find a nice section of ravines to add to your ride. One more section will take you to the lake. 

The well-maintained campground has picket lines or hitching posts on most of the 38 sites.  Each weekend from spring to fall there is a friendly camp host to help you out if you have questions, or are in need of a trail guide. 

If you don't have all weekend to spend on the road, and you are looking for a nice clean campground to kick back and relax, Van Buren just might be what you are looking for!

Directions to VAN BUREN STATE PARK EAST:  From I-75, take exit 164 (St. Rt. 613), turning east.  Follow 613 east into Van Buren . You will see the sign for Van Buren State Park just over the rail road tracks.  Make a right turn, and follow Twp Rd 218.    Go past the main entrance, and keep going past the Pleasant View Campground.  About 2 miles down the road will be the horseman's campground.   The campground will be on the right with a sign that reads Van Buren East Camp.
